The Shields are an elite group of soldiers who work in the special-forces squadron of the BID (Byzantium Intelligence Department) and answer directly to CEO Constantine himself.
They each have a distinct style and attitude about them, and happen to hold a generous amount of loyalty to their main commander.
Originally the subjects of experimentation from the science department, as part of the Herakles super-soldier project, The Shields were hand-picked as the most successful results of the experiment.
Each of them undergoing several years of rigorous and intense training, the Shields are deemed legendary for their amazing skills. Working as a pack of five, they are unofficially lead by Jacques the Ripper, considered the most dangerous and unpredictable of Byzantium operatives.
Phalanx
Panos Milonas was a geneticist in Athens before he joined the Shields. Born with the power of self-replication, it manifested as a teenager and he spent many years trying to learn where it came from and how to completely control it. Approached by Byzantium, he became a willing participant in their super soldier program, granting him telekinesis but also modifying his clones in various ways, giving each one a unique hairstyle and personality when they are spawned. A cool and calculative, manipulative person, Phalanx sees himself as the smartest of the five but often bickers with his clones due to personality conflicts, and wields a large amount of sarissa in combat, which he usually telekinetically wields and splits amongst his clones. Whenever a clone dies, he regains the strength split from him in building it and it's memories it gained, but also feels every bit of pain it did during it's span. Treats Targe at his intelligence level, often being derogatory towards him, but also works with him with no problem. Wears modified Greek armor turned into a sort of coat with pants, and instead of a helmet has a firey orange mohawk.
Targe
Coming in at over seven feet tall, and 900 lbs, one would assume that someone so freakishly large could not be anything but a calm and gentle giant. Unfortunately, this would be the wrong assumption to make, as Targe is most definitely not one of those kind of people. Brutish and barbaric as he is ugly and deformed, Targe is nothing more than a than a living and breathing weapon of destruction.
Possessing almost a godly form of physical strength, and invulnerable to most physical attacks, Targe is not a force to be reckoned with. Armed with a his namesake shield and a giant battle-axe which blade shines red hot, it would be an exaggeration to say that Targe is dangerous if not closely observed. Fortunately for most however, Targe also happens to be absolutely dumb as a brick, susceptible to even the simplest of common trickery. While someone looking for a fight against Targe head-on would most likely get themselves sliced into pieces before they could count to ten, somebody else with a bit more intelligence might have a bigger chance of surviving an encounter with him.
Originally known as Heck Kinley in his earlier years, he was born in the Scottish Highlands. Back then, he was still known for his magnificent feats of strength, but was neither as freakishly huge, nor as freakishly stupid. Working as a professional wrestler, Kinley's skill and strength on the ring awed and inspired all. However, this career took an unfortunate turn when he suffered a debilitating injury, where he was forced to throw in the towel and retired for good. While feeling dejected by this sudden life twist, Kinley was approached by a peculiar man in a suit, who gave him an offer he could not refuse.
Joining the Byzantium Super Soldier program with the promise of riches and glory, Kinley was tested and experimented on for months, where scientists subjected him to various forms of radiation and gene therapy in order to enhance his natural strength. To their utmost surprise and joy, the project was a success, as Kinley grew almost twice in size and dramatically increased in strength. As a consequence however, the experimentation took its toll on Kinley's mind, turning him into an unintelligent bulk of a being. Despite his severe decrease in cognitive functions, Kinley was considered one of the project's biggest successes, and he was eventually picked to become one of Byzantium's elite soldiers, joining the Shield Unit.
Buckler
Kite
A sinewy drow who isn't really good at much else, she idolizes the Red Baron and flies planes with equal tenacity. Kite's true name and motives for joining the Byzantium Super Soldier program aren't known, because her dossiers burnt in a plane crash. Her plane, known simply as The Red Baron Mk. II, also contains ranged weaponry which is seen as strange for Earth standard, and it's not really known where she got the weaponry to begin with. Her speech patterns include awkwardly-shoehorned German in otherwise perfect English.
