Our first shape

Okay, so I am guessing you have opened inkscape. Good. You have a clean page before you. Let's draw a shape!

Select the pen tool(the one I put a red square around). Click and drag around the canvas.

Good!

Now drag the line until it reaches the beginning of the stroke(marked with a small white box). Once the box turns red, release the mouse and the shape will be closed.

Now click a color from the color pallet(the area I put a red arrow towards). The closed shape will now have a colored fill. Good for you!

Notes

When you use the pen tool, you may be wondering how to make a simple straight line. Simply click on the canvas with the pen tool, and without holding down the mouse, drag the line across the canvas. Then you press the mouse button again and the line will be drawn
