"My name is...Daniel Connor."

NACHOMAN: Sarah Connor's lesser known son.
SKUB: This is probably the author's name.

He said at last. "But I just go by Danny."

BLUEBRY: phantom

Kali stared at him, not blinking.

BLUEBRY: "The shock of hearing his nickname was almost unbearable."
SKUB: "Kalico had never seen a roundeye up close before,"

He shifted uncomfortably under her stare. 'It couldn't have been THAT surprising. Maybe she's shaken up from the attack.' He thought. 'If she took this bad, she'll probably faint when she hears what she is.'

BLUEBRY: mary sue, so she won't faint

Danny waved a hand in front of her face.

'This is not going well.' He snapped his fingers this time.

NACHOMAN: "He waved a dog biscuit over her nose."
CHWOKA: SNAP YOUR FINGER TO THE BEAT

'I didn't expect her to blank out.'

CHWOKA: well it's such a mentally scarring memory she'd probably want to.

Finally, Kali got the courage to say something. "Uh..." She mentally slapped herself.

BLUEBRY: damn

'What an intelligent remark, Kali.' She though sarcastically.

CHWOKA: Okay seriously, does this girl just not know how to spell the word "thought"

'Danny's the quiet, kid

CHWOKA: "Quiet, kid!"

at school. I knew I recognized him…Everyone likes him and thinks he's normal. This must be some kind of joke. Kids our age, people in general, can't run that fast.'

BLUEBRY: ...he's a vampire isnt he
SKUB: Or a gundam or something

After another five minutes of Kali's mental war

CHWOKA: It starts with mental slaps and it just escalates from there.

and Danny trying to see if she'd passed out,

NACHOMAN: 'I'm sure grabbing her tit just once won't hurt anybody'
SKUB: 'i want to touch a tat so bad.' He though.

Danny started talking again.

CHWOKA: god NO

"I guess you probably want to know why the guy in the cloak tried to kill you." That snapped Kali out of her thoughts.

"No, shit!

SKUB: "Don't!"
CHWOKA: No shit, Sherlock. {sneer}

It would be nice to know what's going on!" Kali shouted, jumping up, startling him so much by her reaction he fell off the edge of the fountain

CHWOKA: The Fountainhead.

and onto the ground.

SKUB: what a baka

He stood up and dusted himself off calmly. "I also want to know why you can run so fast! It's not normal! Is this a joke you and a friend planned?"

NACHOMAN: YEAH THE WHOLE PRETENDING TO TRY TO KILL YOU THING JUST A LITTLE JOKE WE LIKE TO PULL ON THE NEW KIDS

Danny seemed unaffected by her accusation and continued just as calm, "This isn't a joke. And I'm anything but normal.

CHWOKA: i am an african-american

The same can be said for you."

Kali backed down and looked at him strangely.

CHWOKA: , hungrily.

All snide

CHWOKA: WORDS I HATE (an incomplete list):
SNARK(Y)
IRREVERENT
SNIDE

remarks that had been floating in her head disappeared leaving her mind to her questions.

"What are you talking about?" Her voice wavered a bit.

BLUEBRY: "You're a wizard, Kali."

Something in her told her he was right, and she found herself watching her back and her senses increased. 'He's making me nervous again.'

"Let me show you something."

BLUEBRY: "He then opened his cloak, flashing Kali, and ran off snickering."
SKUB: "HERE IS YOUR WAND"

Danny led her into the house. It was plain. That was the best way she could describe it.

NACHOMAN: "She" meaning "my limited abilities as a writer".

The walls were off- white and nothing decorated them, save a couple cabinets in the far corner.

CHWOKA: oh so you can describe it better

No carpet or rug lay on the faded wooden floor. The only furniture in this room was an old looking table and some clustered chairs.

They entered another room, obviously a bedroom.

NACHOMAN: obviously

The walls were white and plain.

CHWOKA: So much white. Is this heaven?
NACHOMAN: This could be heaven, or this could be hell.

A bed was placed at the far right side with a lamp and alarm clock on a small bedside table next to it. There was a CD player lying on the floor with a stack of CD's close by. On the left side of the room was a closet and on the floor next to it was a small wooden box. It was a plain room, but normal. Kali felt an odd sense of relief.

CHWOKA: as her bowels emptied all over the carpet.</br>BLUEBRY: "This is where I fuck bitches."

Kali kept to her thoughts while Danny pulled the box over and sat down. It was dusty, and when he blew the dust off Kali could see an intricate pattern of symbols and runes.

SKUB: Oh man, runes, are we going to go and fight seven bosses in the seven elemental worlds
CHWOKA: It's kind of like Kingdom Hearts,

The box was deep brown in color and the patterns were carved in and painted black.

NACHOMAN: "This is my favorite pipe in here. It looks like an octopus."
BLUEBRY: "I just picked up an ounce of Blue Dream during free period."
NIC CAGE: This pipe is the key to the national treasure it's under the liberty BELL

Danny lifted the top and flipped it back gently, as if it were fragile or sacred.

CHWOKA: "Would you like a cigarette?"
SKUB: "Be careful with the box, they're my mom's and I don't want her to find out."

In the very center of the box was a beautiful orb, reflecting many colors like a bubble. It was small enough to fit easily in the palm of her hand.

"It's beautiful." Kali stated. And it was.

'SKUB: I don't know, it looks plain to me, that's the only way i can describe it
CHWOKA: DOTTING THE WORLD OF MISSING PERSONS AND SHE WAS
SKUB: No!
{Skub hits Chwoka over the nose with a newspaper. Chwoka curls up and whimpers.}

SKUB: Bad Chwoka!
NACHOMAN: What happened, Skub?
SKUB: Chwoka left a Talking Heads all over the fanfic again.

It seemed to weave the colors inside it like a show just for them.

CHWOKA: THE GALAXY IS IN ORION'S BELT

Danny picked up a small red bead that looked like a marble. The moment he'd touched it his aura

CHWOKA: in 3rd grade i tried to use the word "aura" in scrabble

flared around him, rising in wavering red flares like fire.

CHWOKA: He's got a fiery personality.

'It's like sitting too close to a fire.'

CHWOKA: GEE I WONDER WHAT DANNY'S ELEMENT IS

Kali thought as she

SKUB: burned to death

moved back.

Holding the orb in one hand Danny took off his black sweatshirt

BLUEBRY: now this sounds like something i could like

and cap he'd been wearing so he wouldn't be recognized. His soft black hair was

CHWOKA: all gone, converted to ashes.

unkempt, and Kali got her first good look at him.

BLUEBRY: get some

His eyes still amazed her. Golden-orange eyes

CHWOKA: I swear to god, he had yellow eyes!

were not something she'd ever seen before. He looked back into her dark purple irises.

SKUB: You are my-y... dark-purple-eyed girl!

"What just happened?" Kali said, a bit unnerved by him.

NACHOMAN: "Alright, you're about to taste Jesus."
SKUB: I'd make a Jesus Juice joke but RIP Michael ;-.

"It's called the Solar Spirit."

ALL: WE'VE GOT SPIRIT, YES WE DO, WE'VE GOT SPIRIT, HOW BOUT YOU

Danny said, setting the red marble back in its place, in a ring with other colored stones around the large orb.

CHWOKA: Oh, I've read this book before. Don't eat the center orb! It makes everything that touches your tongue turn into chocolate.
BLUEBRY: even...
CHWOKA: Even that.
BLUEBRY: noooooooooooooo

The six smaller stones glowed gently in the dark room. "It is my spirit stone, for fire."

BLUEBRY: "I picked it up at a place called 'Shroom Kingdom Smoke Shops'. It has powers."
SKUB: Man this just reeks of VIDEO GAME.
CHWOKA: That's my... that's my catchphrase. You bastard. You absolute bastard.

"Let me start from the beginning."

SKUB: I AM THE DEKU TREE, AND THE EVIL GANON PUT A CURSE UPON ME
CHWOKA: "God said: 'Let there be light!' There was light. 'Let there be drums!'"
SKUB: I can see the punchline coming and I don't like it one bit.

"It'll help." Kali said leaning back against the wall.

CHWOKA: Like so: "Leaning back against the wall."

So long as she didn't act like she was totally freaked out, everything was fine. Besides, she was always a victim to her curiosity.

SKUB: And sexual predators but that's not important yet.

"Long ago, in the time of demons, gods, and dragons, six overlords were in control of the six main elements; fire, water, earth, wind, lightning, and spirit.

SKUB: Is this Pokemon or what? If so, pick Charmander.
NACHOMAN: I CHECK
CHWOKA: I'm sorry, but I only recognize the authority of Earth, Wind, and Fire.

The six overlords kept the world in balance. If one element was to break or its power misused, the world would undergo a dramatic change. Back then, six powerful demons decided it was in the world's best interest to destroy all the elemental overlords and keep the power as a souvenir. "

CHWOKA: I know what you mean. I took a trip to Iraq and took all the oil as a souvenir.

Kali inched closer. "What happened?"

CHWOKA: SOMEONE SET US UP THE BOMB.

She had always loved legends like this.

NACHOMAN: "This is a lot like that one anime"
SKUB: She had always loved legends of Zelda

"Over the course of time the six demons plotted and trained.

CHWOKA: IT'S THE EYE OF THE TIGER IT'S THE THRILL OF THE FIGHT

They would take the overlords out one at a time. They attacked fire first. You're familiar with the Ice Age, right?" he asked.

BLUEBRY: "Yes, a little bit, I believe there were two sequels but they were never as successful as the first."

"Of course. Everything was covered in ice."

SKUB: "So what does this have to do with dragons and demons again?"

"Well, they successfully killed fire, and lightning shortly after, throwing the world out of balance

BLUEBRY: KOYAANISQATSI
BLUEBRY: KOYAANISQATSI

for the first time since the Overlords came together. Next taken out was Water. Then, Earth and Wind were challenged.

CHWOKA: to a game of chess, with their life at stake.

Using the power of the two previous victims, Earth and Wind fell.

CHWOKA: That's not how you play chess I'm pretty sure.

The only one left was Spirit."

BLUEBRY: "Known in some circles as 'funk'."

Kali scooted closer

CHWOKA: on her electric scooter. She was wearing kneepads and elbow guards, but left her helmet unstrapped in a show of rebellion.

as Danny paused to close the box and set it back in the corner.

SKUB: "Pardon me, Danny, but this sounds fucking retarded!"

"It was here that they made a mistake. Greed and arrogance blinded them and they greatly underestimated the extent of Spirit's power. While the other five overlords were stronger when all were together, Spirit was connected to every living and dead soul. She couldn't die by mortal wounds.

CHWOKA: So they had to make immortal ones.
NACHOMAN: THESE WOUNDS THEY WILL NOT HEAL

Spirit killed each one of those demons and sealed the rest in Hell."

SKUB: yyawn

"The Gods were brought to the heavens to protect them from any demon that may have escaped from being locked away. She took the lifeless elemental stones and revitalized them with her own power,

CHWOKA: BLOOD TO A STONE

making the Spirit Stones, and sent them to the future to find a merger."

"What is a merger?" Kali questioned.

SKUB: Think Bandai-Namco.
SKUB: Or you know, something that people know about instead.

"She essentially sent them to find a human that could fit the needed personality and beliefs. Someone who had a clear mind

CHWOKA: basically no drug use

and open heart

CHWOKA: well then mr. Don'T is shit out of luck, what with his clogged arteries and all

could bond with the stone."

NACHOMAN: "Actually not really I just kinda made that up"

Danny's eyes flickered red for a moment.

BLUEBRY: "Also I am Satan."

'Like fire.' Kali though. 'But what has all this got to do with me?'

Danny continued as calm as before, unaware of Kali's thoughts. "Those five spirit stones came to this time, and found five hosts suitable for them." Danny looked at Kali again. "On four of those occasions, the host had been aware of the merge, but one, Earth, had picked its host too soon.

"How can that be? I mean, how could it have been 'too soon'?" asked Kali.

SKUB: Well there's sort of an age of consent,

"It's was raining, and the host Earth had chosen was driving home with her family."

Kali watched him for a while, wondering what this had to do with her and why he had to make everything into a story. 'There's something he doesn't want to tell me. That or he likes hearing himself talk.' She mused.

SKUB: Hahahaha, somebody could have died

"But, the rain got harder and they couldn't see the road. A trunk, caught in a similar situation, was on the wrong side of the road. There wasn't anything anyone could do to prevent the crash. Only the two sisters in the back survived the impact, and Earth's host had gotten a concussion." Kali's eyes widened.

'How did he know about the accident? No way was he in Japan then.'

NACHOMAN: "He's nowhere near being cultured enough to deserve to go to such a wonderful place"
CHWOKA: Japan, which is much more advanced.

Kali's frowned and looked at her lap. She didn't know whether to feel angry that he was retelling the accident

CHWOKA: "COME ON, PICK UP THE PACE. BEEN THERE, DONE THAT."

or surprised he knew so much about it in the first place.

BLUEBRY: "I have pictures of you, Kali. Rooms of them."

She never talked about it, not even with her younger sister.

"She awoke with amnesia and could only remember certain things. The merging with Earth wasn't one of them. So, she didn't know anything about the overlords or her play in it. The balance was never fully restored, so none of the other elements were able to fully merge with their hosts."

CHWOKA: Ugh, totally bogus.

"Both Earth's host and her sister were in the hospital for weeks before the police were able to find any family members they could stay with. Earth had no way of returning the girl's memories about the merging, so she remained hidden for seven years."

Kali chose to remain nonchalant

CHWOKA: I wear a nonchalance ring. It means I'm allowed to have sex, but I'm not allowed to enjoy it.

about the story and looked at the wall. 'I want to know how he found out about that. But, I guess this girl is me, because otherwise Meg would be here... So, I've got this Earth thing inside me,'

NACHOMAN: I'd like to put my earth thing inside her if you know what I mean

She though sarcastically, and tried to look like she understood everything. 'Assuming that he can prove it.'

CHWOKA: BURDEN OF PROOF. JUSTICE IS BLIND, BITCH.

'She probably thinks I like to hear myself talk by now. Sean will have a field day with this. He always likes to make a scene.'

BLUEBRY: drama queen
CHWOKA: watch that scene
CHWOKA: only seventeen

Danny thought.

CHWOKA: okay she CLEARLY knows how to spell "thought."
SKUB: "Whoops, made a typo! Better delete that extra t."

"Okay, how do you know about the accident, and what does Earth merging with me have to do with it?" They spent the rest of the afternoon sorting things out.

BLUEBRY: "Mostly M&Ms because they need to keep the colors away from each other and at first they had 11 but they threw one into the woods so they could have 10 because 10 is a nice even number."

Danny only had to clarify a few things, although there was no convincing Kali.

"So as proof, how about you hold your stone.

SKUB: Turn your head and cough

Then you'll see your aura and believe me, right?"

CHWOKA: WRONG!

Andy asked, handing a small dark green stone in his hand.

NACHOMAN: Whose andy
BLUEBRY: ^^^^^that

"Sounds fair enough" Kali reached out to grab the stone but was interrupted by a loud grumble from her stomach.

BLUEBRY: "The alien burst out, violently. 'I should have never been that guy from Alien,' she lamented, and then died."

She blushed and looked away.

Danny just smiled and stood up. "Would you like something to eat? We can do this afterwards."

Kali nodded and smiled a bit. 'I'll think about this later.' They headed back to the kitchen, and she was surprised to see three people at the table.

BLUEBRY: "yo yall gotta try summa this DANK chronic"

They all looked as Danny entered and waved a 'hello' but stared when they saw a short, raven-haired

NACHOMAN: I don't understand that descripti-
SKUB: Think a bird's nest

girl behind him.

The boy with chestnut brown hair and sea blue eyes was the first to say something.

NACHOMAN: "Is it important to ever describe anything besides eye and hair color? Naaaaah"

"Hey, Danny! Got yourself a girlfriend there, have ya?" he said in a teasing voice and breaking out in laughter, winking at Kali to say

SKUB: 'sleep with your ass to the wall'

'just playing with ya'.

Kali wished immediately that he could be as quiet as the others.

CHWOKA: She just couldn't stop farting!

A girl with Strawberry blonde hair stood up and smiled sweetly, completely ignoring the other boy. Her eyes were a soft crystal blue.

SKUB: Eyes like shitty Pepsi

"It's good to have another girl here for once. Would you like something to drink?" she asked.

Kali recognized the third person as Andy from her English class.

BLUEBRY: so there are two andys or what

He just kept staring at her, and Kali was getting very freaked out by it.

SKUB: 'sleep with your ass to the wall'

Danny walked up behind him and,

CHWOKA: took advantage.

with an exasperated sigh, hit him lightly upside the head.

CHWOKA: BOOT TO THE HEAD

Andy snapped out of his daze

CHWOKA: school daze lol

and began firing questions at Danny in a whispering voice so no one could hear him.

"So, what's your name?" asked the girl, handing her a glass of water since she hadn't answered.

"Thanks."

CHWOKA: Nice to meet you, Thanks.

Kali smiled. "My name is Kali, but you can call me Kali."

NACHOMAN: dfksfjls

"I'm Madison.

CHWOKA: but you can call me Madison.

I'm in the 8th grade with that idiot over there," She replied pointing to Sean. "Am I to assume you're the girl Earth merged with?"

"I guess. I never really got a straight answer on that," Kali replied. 'Or proof for that matter" she thought to herself.

"They were probably too busy kissing to talk!" teased the boy with chestnut brown hair. "We all know Danny's a stud!"

NACHOMAN: I don't know if I can handle all this pent up sexual frustration coming from the story. It's alright, chestnut brown hair kid! Let your emotions run wild!
SKUB: COUNTDOWN TO HAREM ANIME: 3

Kali blushed

CHWOKA: king

crimson as Danny smacked him upside the head, a little harder than he'd hit Andy. He was also blushing, but quickly fought it down.

CHWOKA: He also cleverly hid his erection by crossing his legs.

This was getting to be a long day.

The boy that had teased her was named Sean. Kali also learned that Madison had the Wind Spirit,

NACHOMAN: That blows.

Sean had the Water Spirit, and Andy had the Light Spirit.

SKUB: I read this as "Luigi Spirit" and I got really excited for a second

She'd already known Danny had the Solar Spirit. Her Spirit Stone, element earth, was called the Life Spirit.

Madison explained that when you held onto your Spirit stone, you would be able to control your element completely.

"So what do I control?" Kali asked.

"Plants of any kind. You can make 'em grow, die, and," Sean grinned like a manic, "You can sick 'em on people you don't like!"

BLUEBRY: because tree attacks are horrifying
SKUB: WHAT HAPENS WHEN TREES HUG BANK

"No!" Andy shouted. "That would be misusing the power!"

Sean waved him off dismissively. "Ignore him. He doesn't know how to hang lose

NACHOMAN: cough

and enjoy life." Andy rolled his eyes and scowled.

"But, if Spirit had sent the stones into the future to merge with us than why aren't the stones

NACHOMAN: HERE COMES YOUR NINETEENTH NERVOUS BREAKDOWN

part of us? And why do we need to hold them to control the elements?" Kali asked.

This time Danny answered.

CHWOKA: awww FUCK

"The stones didn't fully merge with us because they knew that you wouldn't be able to control your element, so the balance would be uneven. Thus, the stones found each other and left their power inside their hosts and took on solid form. We can now have them fully merge so long as Spirit is with us. As for why we need them to control the elements, it's pretty much the same as before. The power would need to be used, so it had to be accessible. We needed you so." Danny seemed at a loss for words

CHWOKA: bullSHIT, look at that wall of text.

and trailed off.

"At the risk of sounding cliché," Andy continued, "We need to stop history from repeating itself."

BLUEBRY: "There is something you don't know. Another Hitler has been found, here, deep in the Amazon."
CHWOKA: "Also, they're building another Titanic."
NACHOMAN: "And the New York electrical generator is about to blow out."

Kali stared. "Wait a sec.

CHWOKA: ...Okay, resume.

Are you saying that the same six demons as before, which were killed, are back and trying to kill us all again?" Kali asked incredulously. "Sorry, but I'm finding this to be too farfetched."

BLUEBRY: that's what you're finding farfetch'd?
SKUB: fixed!
CHWOKA: BURDEN OF PROOF. I TOLD YA, BITCH.

"No, those demons did die, but Spirit, like she had feared, missed some demons. They have been training and plotting like the others had for hundreds of years. They are too strong for Spirit to imprison now." Madison explained then took another sip of her lemonade.

BLUEBRY: kind of ruined the mood

"We will have to weaken or destroy them."

CHWOKA: "Can I get some more lemeonade please?"

Kali leaned back in her chair. 'This is way too much information.

CHWOKA: TMI, GOD.

Do I even know this is true?' she asked herself.

"You don't believe us, do you?" Sean asked. Kali stared at him while the other members of the group shook their heads and mumbled, 'Here we go again.".

Sean pouted, and then brightened. "I know!" he snapped his fingers and Kali could see the small, dim light bulb pop above his head like in the cartoons.

CHWOKA: Like the ones she saw back in glorious Japan

He ran back into Danny's room and brought out the box. He opened it a little less gently than Danny had and handed out each other their stones. Madison's was white, Danny's red, Andy's bright yellow, and Sean's was a sea blue.

Kali saw their aura's flare, but each one was slightly different. Madison's swirled around her in a sphere, Andy's was flaring fast and in spikes, and Sean's was slow and flowing in gentle curls. Sean then handed her a deep forest green stone. She took it reluctantly and gasped when she saw her own aura. Everyone's aura was the same color as their stone, but Kali's had designs in hers.

BLUEBRY: "Because she was the best."

Shapes of flowers, branches, and leaves

CHWOKA: Clips of reggae, rhythm & blues! Master-mix those number-one {zipper sound}!

flowered and then disappeared just as quickly as they came.

Sean snorted. "Earth sure does like to show off."

CHWOKA: "What a showy bitch."

Kali smiled and set hers down. This was not a dream and that had proved it. "Okay, I think I can believe all this."

"Alright! Go me!" Sean did a mini victory dance,

CHWOKA: Then he spiked his Spirit Stone and shattered it.

until Madison hit him on the head. "Ow! Man, I think you guys pick on me because you enjoy it."

Danny snapped his fingers and said sarcastically, "Oh, darn it! He figured us out! We're gonna need a new excuse for hitting him now!" Everybody laughed as Sean pouted again.

Madison set her stone back in its spot and Sean collected the rest. He put the box back in Danny's room and joined them at the table.

"Kali, it's almost dinner time. Are you eating dinner with us? You did seem pretty hungry earlier."

"Dinner time?! Aw, man, Meg's gonna kill me if I'm not back soon!" Kali quickly stood up and went to retrieve her bag from outside by the fountain.

"I'll walk you home, since you probably won't know your way to your house from here." Danny said and grabbed his coat after putting his glass in the sink.

Sean snapped back to his usual attitude. "Hey now, Danny, behave yourself while we're not there to watch you!" he smirked. Danny rolled his eyes and left with Kali in tow.

"He likes her," said Sean still smiling.

Madison smiled gently and shook her head. "Probably."

NACHOMAN: aaawwwww

* * *

Kali and Danny walked side by side in silence. Danny watched the sunset, noting her family was going to be extremely worried; he hadn't realized how late it was. Kali watched her shoes as she walked along, thinking up excuses for not coming home from school on time.

"So what are we supposed to do now?" Kali asked after a few minutes. What was she supposed to do with this new information?

"We can discuss that tomorrow at school. Right now your family must be worried about you."

"Che.

BLUEBRY: a true revolutionary

Only Meg cares where I am or what's going on. Aunt Casey is the worst guardian you could legally get!" Kali scoffed and crossed her arms.

Danny looked at her. "Who's Meg?"

Kali smiled. "Meg is my fourteen-year-old sister. She's a ball of energy

BLUEBRY: literally

and annoying as heck sometimes, but she cares about everybody. She can always tell when you're lying too, so she always knows what's going on. I never get away with anything."

Danny smiled and looked ahead at the sunset again, taking a deep breath of air when a cool breeze came by. They stopped at the stone path that led to Kali's front door.

Danny put his hand behind his head. "Sorry about making you come home so late, but there's still more we have to talk about and all. Are you free after school tomorrow?"

"I figured as much; I don't have any plans. You guys are the only people I know here," Kali smiled. She turned and jogged back to her house, stopping halfway to turn around and wave back. "Thanks! See you at school!"

Danny waved back lightly and walked back with his hands stuffed down in his pockets. 'Well, I guess now I know why I felt I knew her when I saw her in person. She has the Life Spirit, and my Solar Spirit recognized her.' He continued walking home, too absorbed in his thoughts to see his shadow taking another form.

BLUEBRY: "The form was a phallus. It waved wildly as he walked."

* * *

Kali walked into her house and sighed as the smell of alcohol hung in the air. 'How did she even get custody of us? She's been a drunk for years.' Kali stepped over a pile of beer bottles and looked at the clock. '7:20.

BLUEBRY: smoke weed every day

I wonder if Meg had dinner yet.' She walked into the kitchen to fix herself a dinner and saw Meg at the table.

"So, where's the She-Devil?" Kali asked, rummaging through the fridge for something eatable.

Meg looked up from her work and grinned. "Aunt Casey went out a while ago to some club."

"In other words, no one knows where she is at the moment." Kali clarified, finding some sliced turkey.

"Yup, but I knew where she'd left to at first, unlike a certain sister of mine who decided not to come home after school." Meg lifted an eyebrow in question.

"I made some friends today so we hung out for a while. I must've lost track of time, sorry." Kali lied quickly, hoping that for once, Meg's empathy wouldn't catch her. 'A girl can pray, right?' she thought. Kali was a bad liar by nature and it didn't help that her sister could literally feel if she was guilty or nervous about lying.

Meg looked at her and said, "That has got to be the worst excuse I've ever heard." Meg shook her head. "I know for a fact that you never lose track of time. You've never been late up 'till today."

"Uhhhh." Kali couldn't think of a better response. 'How am I supposed to explain this? Oh, I have the power of an ancient overlord inside me, so I'll be fighting some evil demons after school. Will you be all right getting home on your own?' she thought sarcastically. 'Sure. She'll believe me.'

"What an intelligent response." Meg replied flatly and rolled her eyes. "It can't be that bad."

"Well."

"I can keep a secret! Please?!" Meg pleaded. She was in her Hyper Little Sister mode and gave her best puppy dog pout. It worked like a charm.

"Aaaugh! Fine! You won't believe me anyways!" Kali sighed. 'One minute she's acting like a mom and the next it's like she's five!'

"Yay!" Meg cheered and pulled Kali a chair after clearing the table off. She then sat down and stared at Kali, blinking every few seconds but not moving otherwise.

'She really does look like a four-year-old instead of fourteen.' Kali gave her a warm smile. "Okay, I'll start from when I was walking home." Kali retold her story to Meg. Meg laughed when Kali had quoted what Sean had said. She finished her story and looked to Meg.

"So," Kali waited for Meg to settle down. "What do you think?"

"I think it sounds like something out of the comics we had back home in Japan,

NACHOMAN: I'm leaving.
BLUEBRY: i believe they are called マンガ

but," Meg continued, "But I know that you're not lying."

Kali let out a sigh of relief. "So have you eaten yet?" she asked, changing the subject.

"Nope. I'd decided o wait until you got home to eat." Meg replied.

"I'll order some food then. This turkey I found has been spoiled for," Kali checked the label again and grimaced. "Seven years and four months! Gross!" It went straight into the garbage.

"Can we get Chinese?!" Meg ignored the comment on the turkey to avoid losing her appetite.

"Sure." Kali smiled. She had no idea how bad she would be off if Meg wasn't here to kid around. They were in the same boat, after all. Meg hated Aunt Casey as much as she did, but then no one really liked her at all. 'I just hope that Danny and the others won't be mad at me for telling her.'

BLUEBRY: you will be drive-byed
