Dynasty 13; The Land of Leaders

The seven o' clock bells chimed as the distressed citizens ran through the streets. All mouths were kept close so the only noise heard was the patter of feet, mixed to the uneasy seven chimes. If one were to speak, it would only be hushed and disregarded, and that man may find himself cast into the same fate as what they were all rushing to get to.

Another banishment was to occur.

This banishment was, at first glance, nothing different from any other. But this particular one left the townspeople worried and confused. All they'd thought they'd ever known was now being tested, and no one knew what to think about it.

At the edge of the town, where the high stone walls parted to a large metal gate, stood an old worn wooden platform, in which the people gathered around. The structure creaked with every movement, as 3 gentlemen slowly walked upon it.

A shrill murmur at last came from the immense crowd, as the best dressed of the trio strode forward.

"Oh good citizens!" He announced, his voice echoing through the dank town, "Today, we banish another." He looked back at the two, dressed in dirtied, brown sacks, and sighed.

"These people." he said again. "Were once our great leaders."

The townsfolk became sickeningly quiet.

"They were chosen to lead us onward." He looked back once more, "And have failed."

The accused lowered their heads in shame.

"In times of great peril and ruin, they felt it best to join in and wrong with the others. They've failed again at leading us to the success we deserve. They've failed again to show us the true path to victory in the darkest of times. They have failed once again to be the leaders we'd hoped for them to be."

The rusty metal gates slowly opened to the endless, empty plains that extended outward from the town. The speaker sighed heavily.

"And this, is the greatest crime of all." He then turned around and addressed the men. "So farewell to you both. And should you ever wish to return to this town, I pray the citizens never forget all that you've done wrong to this town. I pray that you're never set to lead again, here nor anywhere where society lives. So now, farewell."

As these words left his lips, the wooden structure collapsed at the leaders' feet, sending them outward onto the cold, rocky soil.

The gates slowly began to close, as the pair were forever cast away from the town.

And may they never return.
