Everybody get up Everybody get up |
Robin is giving the message to his oppressed brethren to rise up so that he may begin to give his message to his common man. The outcry of attention necessary to bring to light the truths he has discovered from his intensive study and reading that will bring about the revolution necessary to destroy the Capitalist regime. |
If you can't hear what I'm trying to say If you can't read from the same page |
Robin begins by explaining that there may be a misunderstanding about the situation at hand(the Capitalist regime) and that only the people who have been truly oppressed will understand the message he is trying to relay. Also a jab at the ineffectiveness of the American educational system, which is often cited as a source of negligent teaching of it's students for the harshness of the dog-eat-dog world founded on the capitalist economy. |
Maybe I'm going deaf, maybe I'm going blind maybe I'm going out of my mind |
Clear reference to the fact that people who often speak in defense of the ideals of Communism are often looked at as enemies, stigmatized, or even worse, are considered "threatening to the government" and are met with clear opposition and persecution. The idea of him being looked at as deaf, blind, and dumb perhaps relates to the idea of street corner naysayers and aggressive spokespeople of the belief, which are often falsely accused of being destitute or both physically and mentally ill. |
