His body had been at his feet for what seemed like hours. He kept looking for a sign of life, knowing inside it was hopeless. His face was pale and unmoving, his clothes were covered in blood, and his eyes would not open.

His life's goal was at his feet. He had done it, and his reward was right there at his feet... yet there was no joy, no feeling of triumph. Only emptiness. He looked up from the body and attempted to let out a long, victourious laugh... yet it fell flat and empty of true emotion, only lingering in the air of the mansion.

Instead of feelings of pride, he felt confusion, anger, and something else... something he couldn't determine. This should be the best day of his life, yet he feels nothing. He can only feel a dark void inside of him, lingering. He attempted to feel pride. He reminded himself of how long he had worked toward this day for years, of how annoying his foe was... yet that did nothing. Instead of feeling the thoughts, they simply vanished into the air. He looked down at the body once more. Still lifeless. Why was he expecting something else?

It never happened this way. It wasn't supposed to happen this way. Yet there he was, all signs of life drained from his body.

He slowly walked away from the house. He looks back once more. Nothing. He continues walking away, only to stop at the exit. He felt more thoughts sinking into his mind, not thoughts of triumphant however... different ones he never anticipated...

He was my brother

He may have actually cared about me

I just took a life

This only made him angrier. He had no reason to feel sympathy for him. He was a pest, a monster... or was he?

It was then he had a revelation. What did he ever to do to him? He tried to search for a reason, and yet... nothing. He spent his whole life trying to ruin him, eventually taking his life... and it was all for nothing. He had deluded himself into thinking this man-no, his brother was a monster, a threat. He had no reason to do the things he did, yet he did. He could've been his friend, his brother... yet he had just taken his life. He had nothing now. Only emptiness. Without him... he was nothing.

He looked back one last time. Nothing more entered his mind as he stared.

Nothing entered his mind as he walked back towards the body.

Nothing entered his mind as he picked up the gun from the ground.

Nothing entered his mind as he reloaded.

Nothing entered his mind as he placed the end in his mouth.

Nothing entered his mind as he pulled the trigger.

Nothing remained in the room as he left... only emptiness.
