Peach's random reviews/3
Dear fellow Cluedo fans; stop being overly nostalgic and give the new games a try for once.
Throughout the community of Cluedo fans, Discover the Secrets is widely considered to be the most hated game in existance. Despite the constant bashings on it, it is actually a well made game with little to bash on. As one of the few games actually produced after the year 2000, fans should be embracing it, not bashing it!
The game is very reminiscent of the original game. The characters are robbed of their titles, but you can still see the personality similarities between the characters and their original counterparts, save for Mrs. White, who is a young actress instead of a motherly elderly woman. In addition, the board shape, as well as three of the rooms, and four of the original weapons, are included as well.
The most striking difference in game play is the cards used. There are a number of spaces with question marks on them, as well as a die with a question mark in place of the one. If you land on or roll a question mark, you get a little help, such as the ability to move anywhere on the board, or the ability to move any of your opponents back to their starting space.
So, are there any downsides to it? Very yes. When twelve clock cards are drawn from the deck, the character who drew the 12th card dies. What's so bad about this? Mostly, it a continuity point. Let's say Scarlet's the killer, and she dies. Later on, Peacock dies. Did Scarlet come back to life and kill Peacock? The game has no legitimate reasoning behind it, leaving a confusing gap for the players to figure out.
While hated upon by the cluedo community, Discover the Secrets is a wonderful game, despite it's tarnished record.
