How to Play

This is how you play this game. Otherwise, you'd be screwed.

Step 1: Creating your Character

The first step is, in my opinion, the easiest. First thing's first... create the page. Under Warriors, create a link that looks like this...

[[/<user name>|<warrior's name>]]

After that, on your subpage, put this form.

* '''USERNAME:'''
* '''WARRIOR'S NAME:'''
* '''LEVEL:''' 1
* '''CLASS:''' Apprentice
* '''EXPERIENCE:''' 0
* '''LIRE:''' 100

* '''HEALTH:''' 50/50
* '''STAMINA:''' 10/10
* '''STRENGTH:''' ?
* '''DEFENSE:''' ?
* '''SPEED:''' ?
* '''WEAPON:''' Leather Gloves
* '''ARMOR:''' Leather Breastplate
* '''ITEMS:'''
** ''None'' - You have no items!
* '''SKILLS:'''
** ''None'' - You have no skills!

* '''WINS:''' 0
* '''LOSSES:''' 0

Long list, huh? Don't worry, every bit is important.

  • USERNAME: This is your username. Hurr.
  • WARRIOR'S NAME: The name of your warrior. Let's try to keep it appropriate for the era--let's stay away from Japanesey or futuristic names, it's in the early Roman years.
  • LEVEL: All warriors start off at level one. Gaining levels is as easy as gaining experience. Experience tables are shown later.
  • CLASS: All warriors start as Apprentices. Classes are gained near the beginning of the game, but that's something for later.
  • EXPERIENCE: Experience is gained through missions, fighting in the colosseum, and through other ways. Experience tables are shown later.
  • LIRE: Lire, the currency of the Forum, is used to pay for armor, weaponry, and advanced lessons.
  • HEALTH: Health determines how long you last in combat. More health can be gained through levelling up.
  • STAMINA: Stamina helps you use skills. More stamina can be gained through levelling up.
  • STRENGTH, DEFENSE and SPEED: These are some of your most important stats. You are given exactly 15 points to pool into these stats. No more, no less.
  • WEAPON: All warriors start with basic Leather Gloves. Weapons are bought from the Weapons shop.
  • ARMOR: All warriors start with a basic Leather Breastplate. Armor is bought from the Armory.
  • ITEMS: Items can be bought from the General Store, recieved as awards for quests, or found on fallen enemies.
  • SKILLS: Skills are used in fighting. More skills can be gained through either levelling up or training.
  • WINS and LOSSES: This is how many times you have both won and lost in combat. Simple.

And that's about it for this section.

Step 2: Classes

Of course, it's important to choose a class in this crazy game. The three classes are below...

Gladiator

Master of the sword, the Gladiator is the powerhouse of the four classes. Which means, of course, this is the one everybody will choose. Gladiators are more adept at using swords, yet they lack defense.

  • +1 Strength for each level.
  • Sword Bonus - If the Gladiator holds a sword, +1 Strength is added to the strength bonus.
  • Gladiators can only wear light armor.

Wrestler

Defensive walls, Wrestlers excel in grappling, throwing and putting people into submission. At the cost of speed, Wrestlers can do well on the battlefield.

  • +1 Defense for each level.
  • Glove Bonus - If gloves are equipped on a Wrestler, +1 Strength is added to the strength bonus.
  • Wrestlers cannot attack first at the beginning of a fight.

Kickboxer

Kickboxers are speed demons. Though weakest, their agility allows them to make many blows in a short amount of time.

  • +1 Speed for each level.
  • Kickboxers always get the first attack.
  • Kickboxers cannot equip armor. The only weaponry they can equip are boots.

Step 3: Combat

A major part of COLOSSEUM is battling. How well you do in battle is influenced by your stats. Depending on your stat, you deal, resist, or avoid damage better. But these are nothing unless you actually fight. Fighting works like this.

USER attacks with his Short Sword!

FOE takes little damage.

FOE punches USER!

USER takes damage!

USER uses Some Skill!

FOE takes so much damage!

FOE has been struck down!

USER gains some experience!

As you can see, it's turn based. You must wait for the moderator to confirm your attack before you attack again. Also, only one foe can be attacked at a time--unless you have certain skills.

Gaining levels is also an important part of combat. Gain enough experience and you get another level! Plus, when you level up, you get points to put in whatever stat you want! Here's how the experience gain goes.

  • Level 1: 0 exp., 0 pts.
  • Level 2: 50 exp., 5 pts.
  • Level 3: 100 exp., 5 pts.
  • Level 4: 200 exp., 5 pts.
  • Level 5: 300 exp., 10 pts.
  • Level 6: 400 exp., 10 pts.
  • Level 7: 500 exp., 10 pts.
  • Level 8: 600 exp., 15 pts.
  • Level 9: 700 exp., 15 pts.
  • Level 10: 800 exp., 15 pts.

Yes, the levels keep going from there. The pattern is a bit repetetive, but whatevs.

Step 4: Questing

In the Forum, there are people who need help. Take up quests from townsfolk to get rewards--experience, lire, items, whatever. Helping townsfolk is very important in COLOSSEUM, and the more you help, the better reputation you get, and eventually, the better the reward!

Step 5: Training

Training is vital to the success of a warrior--for without it, how would a warrior know how to fight? You can train only 3 times a day, and up to 3 times per instructor.

Tiberius, Master of Sword

Tiberius is the man to go to when you need to master the sword. His lessons will grant you all manner of sword-related skills, as well as a couple others.

Claudius, Master of Wrestling

Claudius, being the big man that he is, is a pro at wrestling. His lessons will give you newfound defensive strategies and skills.

Nero, Master of Martial Arts

Nero has returned from the Orient to bring newfound techniques! His hands-on training will let you improve in battle with grace and style.

Step 6: Play the Game!

We're finally done with the tutorial! Now you can go ahead and venture into the world of COLOSSEUM!
