Doughnuts and murder; two of the seemingly best things in life.

Killer Crullers is the sixth book in the Doughnut Shop Mystery series by Jessica Beck. The series is about a number of murders in April Springs, North Carolina that are investigated by doughnut shop owner Suzanne Heart. The book series itself is a genius idea, but each book is perfectly made in it's own right, and Killer Crullers is no exception to this rule.

The book starts out promisingly enough, with a customer pelting the next door second hand store with crullers, demanding the owner gives back money and jewelry allegedly stolen from his mother. It doesn't take too long for the authorities in April Springs to come across him spread out in front of Doughnut Hearts, a single, fatal bullet hole in his body.

The characters in the book are quirky and beautifully created, ranging from . While reading the books before it makes be story less confusing, it can be understood and enjoyed all on it's own. As well, the book is an easy read, is simple to follow, and is quick to jump right into the action. As such, you don't have to force yourself to trudge through every last word, as with some other novels.

I have no real qualms with the book. The story was well thought out, the clues logically worked in and evident, and the ending is suspenseful, to top it off. As one of the mysteries I was able to solve before the detectives (for a wrong, yet logical, reason, I should add), it kept me gripped into every last word of the story. Perhaps the best part of the book is the fact there will still be more in the series.

In short, Killer Crullers is a deliciously sinister novel with delightful sugar coated twists scattered about.
