Ideas

  • Gavin brings up the idea of there being two ideological styles of gameplay that players can choose from; Magic vs. Technology. The actual mod itself is akin to steampunk junction, but each faction has different gameplay elements to them:
    • Technology aims to let players who adapt this study gain access to powerful ranged weaponry that allows them to hammer enemies from a distance. These guns are ammo-based, made by gathering resources and converting them into heavy weaponry. Ranged equipment is more powerful at the cost of consuming resources which would otherwise be used to create bases and fortifications. Technology deals a lot more sustained damage compared to magic's burst, in that ranged weapons can deal more damage over time, warranting the discovery of heavier armors to provide additional defenses so that they can outlast their opponents. They often ride vehicles into battle. Vehicles are heavily fortified against attacks and last longer, but travel more slowly because of it.
    • Magic is a primordial force of nature that exists within all beings. Tapping into magic requires intense training, and can only be done in certain material. Using magic consumes not resources, but puts demand on the physical body, taking away hunger and health and even XP, but granting you strong power and fair CC. Mages go all out to crack armor and deal as much damage as possible before exhausting their resources. Their fight is more to aim to take out the squishiest damage dealers while then going in on the heavier-class enemies. Mages don't get heavy armor that provide large defensive bonuses, but their equipment often comes with enchantments or provides buffs to give them an advantage over their enemies. They often bind mounts to their aid, designed to deal damage while providing excellent mobility, though they are fairly susceptible to targeted damage and can break easily.
  • The general idea being worked with is that players will be able to individually choose between magic and technology either as teams or as individuals depending on the server and be given books to unlock the secrets of either discipline. As they work to discover the secrets inherent to both sides, they will gain the benefits of recipes, items, and abilities to use to fight. There are benefits to each tree that are unique, but for the most part the number of recipes and things they unlock is meant to be structurally similar. The players will aim to work towards discovering their respective books by the end of phase one or early phase two, and developing necessary armaments for phase 3 to take place. Should players get lucky in looting from dimensions, there may not be a need for the book at all, as some items found in the dimensions exceed the abilities of the books, but the books are the foundation for their initial supply of equipment and armaments.
