EPISODE 1: THE BEGINNING OF THE END

{The scene fades into a basement or small warehouse-looking area, with a concrete floor and dim lighting. Text at the bottom of the screen briefly appears reading "EAST AMHERST, NY - UNKNOWN LOCATION" and quickly disappears. Several characters are present, all sitting facing toward a television screen except for one who is standing up. His face is not visible.}

TELEVISION ANNOUNCER: Tragedy struck late last night when an underground nightclub known as the "Star Chamber" was the victim of a terrorist attack. The attack is believed to have used a deadly virus which quickly infected the entire club. The local police along with the SWAT team quickly sealed off the area to prevent the virus from spreading further. Since the Star Chamber was in fact an underground nightclub, it is unlikely that any of the "clubbers" were drinking the local water supply, therefore not being under the protective effects of Parepin. This is- {television shuts off, turned off by the one character who is standing up}

ANONYMOUS 1: Do any of you truly believe this? Any of you?

ANONYMOUS 2: {a female voice} Christ no. Has the news ever been believable?

ANONYMOUS 3: {hesitant} I know it's shocking, but we shouldn't jump to conc -

ANONYMOUS 2: Look, Josh, are you with us or not?

ANONYMOUS 4: He's probably got a point. We shouldn't jump to conclusions, but I'd say it's likely it was staged.

ANONYMOUS 1: Staged? No. Inside job? ... {He waits for a reply}

ANONYMOUS 5: Maybe.

ANONYMOUS 1: Believe what you want but I know as well as you do that "maybe" isn't why you're here. Does anyone here know anything further about this or are you all blind as damn cavefish? Because if no one else has anything to say then I might as well say it.

ANONYMOUS 6: It is unknown to us. Or, at least me.

ANONYMOUS 2: I think it's an inside job, did as soon as I heard!

ANONYMOUS 7: I don't think it was staged.

ANONYMOUS 1: {sighs} That's not even close to what I meant. We're not arguing about who thinks it was staged or who thinks this or who- no. I mean actual facts, people.

ANONYMOUS 5: I mean, why would they stage it?

ANONYMOUS 1: They didn't stage it. It was an inside job. Here they have a nightclub full of people who are candidates for being a member of the Resistance - which, by the way, I noticed we're missing a couple people - so why the hell would terrorists attack it? It would be a much less likely target than, say, a museum. You really think the government didn't do this? After all the shit they've already pulled?

ANONYMOUS 6: Now that you mention it, it does seem suspicious. Any other thoughts?

ANONYMOUS 1: Yes, I have something that holds to this case. I've got a cousin who does wiretaps for the feds, got my hands on a transcript last night when I ate over. {he chuckles lightly} You'd think that they'd hire people that could hide their top-secret documents better, no? Anyway, I've got copies. You read this and then you burn it, you got it? And whatever you do, don't do anything on your way home that'll get you in hot water with the law. They find this, you're done, I'm done, we're done, and America is done.

{Anonymous 1, wearing a mask of some sort, hands a manila envelope to each person present.}

ANONYMOUS 1: Do not, I repeat, do NOT open this until you are at home and alone. Burn after you read it. The original sheet's long gone; I'd be dead if I kept it. Same time next week, fellas?

{The members exit one by one, leaving Anonymous 1 alone in the basement.}
